Understanding ‘Blah’ Days: Tips for Emotional Reset

“Some days don’t scream or cry— they just sigh.”

Today’s Topic: Feeling Blah: Understanding it & Finding a path to feeling better

Has anyone else every just felt blah I know and elegant word for sure. It’s a term that is perfect for capturing that in-between state when anything you do feels muted and gray. You aren’t really sad, or happy, feeling blah makes you feel trapped in a weird limbo, well for me that is. If you can feel yourself dragging through the day, with a listless energy, you’re not alone. There is some many people who experience the low battery modeyour emotional burnout can feel overwhelming, but there is a few way to help tunnel out of the fog!

Static in the Stillness

Now before rushing into any solution or ideas, we really need to recognize our static or blah feeling. Feeling this way is normal human behavior not that we like to admit to being normal! Having that emotional burnout happens for multiple reasons, pressures in our personal and professional life, or simple your not getting enough stimulation. Accepting that your blah state is only temporary can really help reduce the impact. Its okay to feel foggy and bogged down. Reduce the judgement that you place on yourself by accepting your low battery mode is valid and it happens to everyone!

The Catnap Reset

Lets talk about the physical side of your gray feels. Our physical well-being plays a huge roll in our emotional health. In my experience, on days when that murky blah feeling creeps in, doing a form of light physical activity helps move the feelings along. A short walk, leisurely biking, stretching, and to my surprise, even gardening! Anything that passes the “talk test” if you can sing while doing the activity, its likely to check the light intensity box! Movement helps to stimulate the body’s natural mood lifters, your endorphins.

Physical activity + mindfulness = a clear mind Focus on your breathing and letting your thoughts flow freely!

Whisker sized Wins

I don’t know about you guys, but waking up feeling like a rain cloud can make even the simplest of task feel daunting. Just running through everything you have to do for the day makes me want to crawl back under the blankets. I find breaking your day into small manageable tasks, can shrink that rain cloud. During the morning, making my bed is one way I get a sense of achievement. Celebrating small wins, is just as important was celebrating the big wins. My small victories have helped me gradually build my confidence and foster a sense of purpose in my life. What’s a small or big task you can celebrate?

Curl Into Your Calm

After a long day of murky emotions and listless bones, recharging is something I look forward to. For me, my recharging starts on my way home from work. I get twenty minutes alone, with no talking, revolving doors, or the dinging of my texts and emails. Its nice to be able to ride in complete silence to decompress. Once I’m home I sit on my recliner and curl up with my cat before his hunger out weights my emotional & mental well-being. Others I’ve come across recharge by reading a chapter of their favorite book, or connecting with a trusted family member or friend. Whether your recharging looks different then mine, it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you aren’t reluctant to do it!

Emotions, Unfurled

Expressing how you feel, sounds simple doesn’t? Well yes and no. I sometimes get tripped up in what I want to say or how I want to say it. When that happens it adds onto the blah feeling. It’s important to remember, expressing how you feel, no matter how inelegant it may be, can help relieve the emotional load. You can write in a journal, speak to someone, or even play an instrument. Allowing yourself to experiences your feelings without being told “to move on.” Finding peace in the present can sometimes be the first push to moving through it.

Paws, Breathe, Repeat

I’m bad for ignoring my self-care. Honestly, I’m not good with it, and that’s okay. I had to ask around on this, and here is what i found out. Self-care isn’t a set of rules or something you can put in a box. No it comes in different sizes, shapes, and styles. For one person, it could be going out and splurging on a fancy meal, maybe buying a luxurious bath set, or just simply sitting on the couch with your furry friend sipping on warm tea. Self-Care is about prioritizing you and activities that make you feel good and be unapologetic in taking the time to rest and recharge when you need.

Claws in, Calm Out

Now, let’s talk about BOUNDARIES. This lovely word seems to be foreign to so many people i come across… myself included at times. Set those boundaries in your personal life and professional life. You can have emotional boundaries, communication boundaries, Time & Availability boundaries, learning to say no helps to protect your peace. When your peace is protected, you give room for positivity you’re aiming to invite into your world.

The Final Purr

Listen, the blah feeling isn’t anything to be ashamed of, it’s not a reflection of your inner strength or self worth. It’s a speed bump in your story. As we navigate through our gray moments, remember fog always lifts. It may take time, but embracing the little things that help you feel better, leaning into your feelings, and give yourself a pass to simply feel your feelings. Nurture your soul with kindness and patience, and soon you’ll be back in the brightness.

Our world moves fast and talks even louder. Choosing to slow down and connect with yourself is a quiet act of rebellion. It all matters, checking in with your emotional and mental state, making space for a moment of peace.

Curl up, take a beat, and remember; not all comforts have to be big to matter. It isn’t about perfect days or seamless routines, it’s about clocking when you need a pause or soft return to yourself.
