Why Books Are Our Best Friends

“Books are the only creatures that whisper when the world gets too loud.”

Today’s topic: Booked for Life!

Books have the ability to transport you to another world, make a mess of our emotions, and challenge your mind. You might grab that well-worn book that’s barely hanging on. Or maybe it’s a book that made you open up to the world around you. We all have that one book that will forever be in our hearts.

So, here comes the hard part.. Do you have a favorite book? Is it a classic like To Kill a Mockingbird? Or maybe a modern masterpiece like Wild Dark Shore? It can be a hidden gem you’re hiding to savor the experience? Let’s settle in and turn the page to stories that have shaped our hearts!

For as long as I can remember reading is something I have excelled at. Whether it was in primary, high school, or University, reading has always been “my thing.” My fascination with reading started in my childhood. I was a naturally more reserved child with a quiet and shy nature.

I was capable of finding joy in things that most children my age cared for. That’s not to say I couldn’t be a rambunctious child.. I was definitely classified as a “problem child” at times. Put a book in front of me. I became the picture of calm and contention. It was truly a sight to behold!

Growing up with books in my life, I tended to appreciate the solitude a library offered. Being surrounded by shelves of books helped me feel a sense of comfort. I remember when I was in high school. I opened a book and read it in the middle of class.

Not in a pretending I’m listening to the lesson kind of way… It was a brazen, center of the room… “I don’t care about anything other than this book in my hand..” kinda way, Which thinking about it now… yeah.. Probably shouldn’t have done that!. But what was I supposed to do! It was at the climax of the entire book.

Of course, I care less about the mighty mitochondria. It’s nothing compared to the fantasy world I was plunged into. Living the fight between two lovers divided by two opposing factions! Who can blame me,  I had to find out what happened! Well turns out… the science teacher, that’s who did not care about my book! Apparently interrupting my reading time with their class isn’t horrible enough, they went and held my book hostage!

Talk about cruel and unusual punishment! My fellow readers and book lovers will understand where I’m coming from. The point is, there is nothing else like it in the world, in my opinion! Being capable of immersing yourself in a fictional world. With all sorts of cool and unique creatures, and characters, is therapeutic! If I was asked about a favorite book… I think I couldn’t answer !

If i had to say if i have a favorite book, my answer wouldn’t be definitive. I know that sounds weird but it’s true! I love most of the books I have come across so far in my life. In high school I was really into Lauren Kate and her Fallen Series. It’s funny to think back on and remember how I literally made an art piece inspired by the series… I wonder where that went…

Another noteworthy series I loved was the “Women of the Otherworld” by Kelley Armstrong. This series includes thirteen books about loyalty, identity, and empowerment. It also offers your good old romance with a side of spice, if you catch my drift. 😉. This series is as emotionally compelling as it is  thrilling!

Currently I am into new authors, ones who aren’t super popular but definitely are on their way! I’m now reading a series called “Assistant to the Villain”  by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. It’s a super quirky, workplace comedy, romantasy, with an opposite-attract. I recently found this author and their work on Tik-Tok of all places! I haven’t been disappointed yet!

So far, I have two books of the trilogy. Unfortunately, the third book is set to be released in August 2025. But I have a secret to share. I PRE-ORDERED! That’s right, now as soon as it’s released I will manage to finish the series without worrying about selling out! What’s even more amazing. Its getting a TV Series, well- according to google… but don’t worry i will be researching the validity!

Let me stop myself from rambling. Whether you have a favorite book or can’t decide. Books have been a steadfast companion – through quiet moments, chaotic classrooms, and everything in between. They’ve shaped the way I look at the world around me. And introduced me to characters and places I’ll never forget.

So thank you to the beloved classics. Nostalgic favorites and new authors bring new adventures on the pages we read! Here’s to the books that made us laugh, ripped our hearts out, then made us fall in love. Who’s to say your next favorite is already on your table or soon will be there? Its just waiting to fall open!

 See you next time!
